The ministry of food processing has prepared and adopted ‘Vision 2015’ which aims to achieve increase in

• Level of processing from 6% to 20%

• Value addition from 20% to 35

• Share in global food trade from 1.5% to 3% by the year 2015.

An investment of Rs 1, 00,000 crore will be required to realize the Vision by the year 2015, the market for processed food consumption will grow from $ 102 billion in 2014-15.

India is World’s second largest producer of food next to china, and has the potential for development of a large Food Processing sector.

With the rise in the per capita income, a growing middle class population and consumption pattern changing towards processed and value added food, the Food processing sector is expected to double by 2010.

Organized Retailing has emerged as the sunrise in India. It ensures an efficient farm-to-fridge supply chain. With the rapid growth in the Indian Food sector, the food retail sector is also growing at a hefty 9 percent.
